What really doesn’t make one a programmer.

Being a programmer has always been that title everyone wish to have under the roof of technology. Most norms adopted on the mentality of being a programmer have always been based on faulty logic. This blog post is a curated list of a few norms that newbies tend to adopt in an effort to prove themselves as senior developers among people of diverse disciplines.

The list is subject to critics as there is no official documented source of information about this matter.

How then do you identify newbie programmers(newbies who appear experts)? We go:

Having several stickers on their laptops

They are commonly seen around public Wi-Fi with stickers on their laptops. These stickers they probably get during tech meetups and hackathons, they include common names such as Tensorflow, Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc. The stickers are always very technical, so much technical to the owners too.

They consider Windows users as not cool

They will always apply negative energy against Windows users and enjoy making hatred sentiments whenever they see Windows screen. They hover around bragging on how powerful Linux or Mac terminal is as compared to Windows CMD.

Posting programming memes and codes on their social media walls

They will join Facebook programming groups and Telegram channels to access memes, which they later repost and give a technical caption that they hardly know much about. They post images of downloaded codes without giving reference to the owner of the work.

Learning numerous programming languages concurrently

They learn every language they come across from HTML to R without knowing their practical applications in the real life.

Shaggy hair and bushy beards

Most of the time they are seen walking around with bushy beards and shaggy hair feeling at the cadre of developers at Silicon Valley, California USA.

They proclaim to be hackers.

They move around spreading the gospel of how they have managed to cause mess to systems and how severe they can be if they decide to be.

Wearing Hoodie 24/7

They watch hacking movies and try to emulate the actions in real life. They wear dark woodies no matter how hot the weather seems.

Frequently mentioning the term ‘algorithm’ in their conversations.

They literally find it interesting mentioning the term “algorithm” in their conversations, even to those who know nothing about Microsoft Word. But why?

Associating themselves with coffee

They are always evangelists of coffee. They tend to associate themselves with coffee. The issues is they code less and coffee more.

They think those who code while consulting Google are noobs.

They do not care about what Stackoverflow says.

They devalue other newbies. “Oooh Ken, what a crap! You mean you do not know sublime text. Jesus”, such statements are common among them.

Thanks for your time wading through the article. Please feel free to make the list long or make critics of it in the comments. Bye Bye, we meet next week same time same place but with fresh content.
